Leaders…. are you always trying to deal with a whirlwind of change?

Is your organisation constantly trying to keep up with different advancements in technology and the every changing workforce needs?

How do you ensure smooth transitions when dealing with change initiatives and still maintain stability and effectiveness…
The McKinsey 7S Framework, is a powerful tool for analysing and managing change within your organisation.

To thrive in this ever-evolving environment, organisations need a robust framework for navigating change and ensuring alignment.

The 7Ss: A Holistic View

This framework considers seven interconnected elements crucial for organisational success:

  • Strategy: Your vision, goals, and competitive advantage.

  • Structure: How your organisation is organised and departments interact.

  • Systems: Formal and informal processes, workflows, and decision-making structures.

  • Shared Values: The core beliefs and principles that guide your organisation.

  • Skills: The capabilities and expertise of your workforce.

  • Style: The leadership approach, communication style, and decision-making culture.

  • Staff: The people who make up your organisation and their capabilities.

The key lies in understanding how these elements influence each other. For example, if you change your strategy to focus on innovation, you might need to adjust your structure to create cross-functional teams, develop new skills in employees, and adapt your leadership style to foster creative thinking.

Putting the 7S to Work in Your UK Business:

  1. Diagnose Your Situation: Use the 7S as a lens to assess your current state. Are your elements aligned? Are there inconsistencies hindering performance?

  2. Identify Goals and Challenges: What are you aiming to achieve? What obstacles are you facing? Align your 7S elements to address these goals and challenges.

  3. Prioritise and Plan: Don’t try to change everything at once! Focus on the most critical elements and develop a phased action plan.

  4. Communication is Key: Keep everyone informed about the changes, their rationale, and how they benefit the organisation. Foster open communication and address concerns.

  5. Monitor and Adapt: Change is a journey, not a destination. Regularly assess the impact of your actions and be prepared to course-correct if needed.

The 7S Framework is a flexible tool, not a rigid formula. Adapt it to your unique context and use it as a springboard for insightful discussions and effective change management.

Bonus Tips:

  • Start small: Focus on one or two elements at first, especially for major changes.

  • Seek external expertise: Consider engaging change management consultants for tailored guidance.

How do you begin….

As the bonus tips state… start small – Major changes take time and you can’t conquer everything at once. Also… seek external expertise – It is a challenge to make changes in a business when you are still trying to keep the day to day going.
Inspire OD are your external partner to contact, we provide our professional expertise and knowledge on how to implement and sustain change initiatives in your organisation.

Ashleigh has an uncanny ability to really get to the bottom of why we feel unproductive at times. Her advanced skills and techniques enable her to carve the right pathway so that we perform better as professionals, sleep better on a night, and function in a much more efficient and productive way during the day. When it comes to her coaching and personal development sessions, she listens intently, asking the right questions and finding the solutions that we need to achieve our goals whether they be personal or professional. If you are someone that is lacking clarity and focus, or someone that has advanced to the next stage of their career and looking to increase productivity, or even someone that just wants foolproof ways of better managing a team, then I would recommend Inspire OD unreservedly.

You won’t be disappointed.

I couldn’t recommend working with Ashleigh more.

She has used her skills to help me become more productive and get to the deeper issue of why I wasn’t using my time effectively. She does this without any judgement and with such professionalism. I felt safe and open to talk to her and I really looked forward to our sessions.

If you are ever stuck and need someone to help guide you in the right direction Ashleigh is your girl!

Ashleigh was absolutely fabulous, from the moment my coaching journey began she guided me through the process and made me feel comfortable throughout. The session felt non judgemental and relaxed. She allowed me to speak freely and guided our discussion allowing me to conclude my own opinions. She really helped me draw clarity on my situation and ensured I left feeling positive with the knowledge I can tackle my issue head on.

Ashleigh has a great talent that not many people have today, and that is the ability to listen.

During conversations with Ashleigh, she gave me the tools to deal with scenarios which I hadn’t considered and were of great benefit, I will continue to use going forward
